Welcome to
Cook County Assessor James M. Houlihan’s Exempt Parcel Search Page
for Religious Organizations. This special service is
provided as a part of the Cook County Assessor's Interactive
Website. We value the
contributions that religious organizations make to our
communities. In an effort to protect the property of these
institutions, the government offers exemptions that eliminate all or
a portion of the tax burden on these important organizations.
The money saved on taxes can then be reinvested in the
organization to benefit the surrounding community and its
citizens. To keep these organizations informed, we are providing
the information included on this website.
This search page can be
used to check the most current information available on the
exempt status of property that is used for religious purposes
and has been granted exemption by the Illinois Department of
Revenue. You can also view an image of the property.
There are 38 townships in Cook County. Each parcel of land is
located in a certain township. Assessment notices are mailed out
in a set order according to township. You can view the order of
this mailing by going to (2007
Maildates). After the assessment work for a township has
been completed and all properly filed appeals have been
considered and decided, the assessment of that township is
complete and the township is "closed" by the
Assessor's Office. When a township is "closed" the
status and value of all property in that township is final for a
particular tax year.
You can check to see if
the township where your property is located is
"closed" by going to (2007
Maildates). If there is a date in the column entitled A
Roll Published, your town is closed for 2007. This means that
the exempt status shown is current. If
there is no date in this column, the exempt status shown is for
current year. As each township closes, the information on
this website will be updated. Once your property is exempt, you do not have to file an annual affidavit
to maintain your exempt status. You must notify our office if
there is any change in ownership or use of the property.

Please read the following instructions for information on how
to best conduct a search for exempt property. |
Search Instructions
There are four main search functions available to you
in performing an assessment search for non-residential property in Cook
County. You may search by Name, Property Index Number (PIN), Address or
by Address Range. If you already know your PIN, use the "Property
Index Number" function. If you do not know your PIN, you may use
the "Name" function. The third, "Address" function,
may be used as a geographic location. Use the "Address Range"
function to retrieve all parcel records for a range of addresses along a
street. It is important to note that there are often multiple
addresses for certain religious properties.
Once you have finished reading these instructions, you
may begin your religious properties search by clicking on one of the
highlighted "Click Here to Begin a Search" buttons at the top
and bottom of this page. This will bring you to the Search Page, or
you may click the highlighted "Search Help" on the bottom of
the "Exempt Parcel Search" page.
Name Query
If you wish to obtain information on a specific
residential property but you do not know the PIN, simply enter the Name
of the institution in the "Name" function. It should be noted
that due to various institutions with the same name, our name file might
contain errors or omissions. If you experience difficulties, please call
the Cook County Assessor’s Office Exempt Department at 312-603-5499. Enter the exempt agency name.
Once the required field of information is entered,
click once on the "Go" button to submit your search. This will
bring up a page with your desired PIN, agency name, property address and
city.
Property Index Number
Query
The PIN (property index number) is a series
of numbers that uniquely identifies a parcel of property within Cook
County. The first 2-digit number represents the largest geographic
grouping of parcels, known as an Area. The Area is equivalent to a
Township (typically a 6- mile by 6-mile area). The second 2-digit number,
the Sub-Area, is equivalent to a Section (typically a 1 mile by 1 mile
area). The third in the series, a 3-digit number is the Block number
representing a group of parcels (typically all grouped parcels bounded on
all sides by streets) within the Sub-Area. The next 3-digit number
represents the Parcel number within the Block. The last number in the
series, a 4-digit number, represents a particular unit number or condo
within a parcel.
To go to a particular parcel record,
enter valid numbers for a complete PIN and click the "Go"
button. If only a part of the series of numbers is entered, the set of
parcel records matching the portion of the PIN entered will be shown.
Note: When entering a partial PIN, "gaps" can
not be left in the number. For example, 20-18-111-___-____ is a valid
entry, but 20-__-111-___-____ is not. At a minimum, the Area, Sub-Area and
Block numbers must be entered.
Address Query
If you wish to obtain information on a
specific property but you do not know the PIN, simply enter the address in
the "Search by Exempt Property Address" function. It should be
noted that due to the transitory nature of addresses, our address file
might contain errors or omissions. If you experience difficulties, please
call the Cook County Assessor’s Office Exempt Department at
312-603-5499. When entering the street name of your desired property,
to aid in your search, please do not enter the street suffix, such as St.,
Dr., Ave., etc. You will then need to enter the city name in the box on
the third line of the section. Once the required fields of information are
entered, click once on the "Go" button to submit your search. This
will bring up a page with your desired PIN, agency name, property address
and city. Simply left click once
on the highlighted PIN for more information on your property.
Search Help:
If you are having difficulty finding a property or wish to expand your
search, try entering less information. For instance, in the "Search
by Exempt Property Address" function, leave the direction box blank,
or only enter the first few letters of the street or city. In the
"Search by PIN" function, if you enter only the first seven
numbers of your PIN (i.e. if your index number is 01-01-123-456-0000, and
you only insert 0101-123) this will expand your search to include all the
properties that share those seven digits in ascending PIN order. This will
widen the parameters for the database and improve the possibility that a
record is found.
Address Range Query
Use this query to retrieve all
parcel records for a range of addresses along a street. If you are not
sure of the exact spelling of the street, in the first few characters all
records matching that value will appear. |
