Notice of Reassessment

The value on this notice reflects your home’s new, proposed reassessment value. It is important that you carefully review this notice as any increase in your assessed value will be reflected on your second installment tax bill payable in 2008.

If this property is your primary residence, it may be eligible for a Homeowner Exemption, which provides additional savings off your second installment property tax bill.

Currently, qualified homeowners are protected from large assessment increases by the 7% Expanded Homeowner Exemption. This exemption was developed by Cook County Assessor James Houlihan in 2003 in order to slow the impact of a home's reassessment increase.

The 7% provision was recently renewed by the Illinois General Assembly for another triennial reassessment cycle. Under the new version,  the maximum exemption amount will increase in the first year and then be phased out over the next two years.

Unless the measure is expanded, renewed or made permanent by the General Assembly, homeowners will see limited protection in future tax bills. Our records indicate that this property did qualify for the Homeowner Exemption in 2006
