You may file a residential appeal with the Assessor's Office  if you believe your proposed assessed valuation is too high. You should consider filing an appeal if:
1) your proposed assessment is higher than similar properties in your neighborhood or
2) there is an error in the description of your  property. Please be aware  a minor error does not necessarily mean an incorrect assessment.

In order to file a residential appeal based on option 1 above you may want to find comparable properties. You can find the reassessments of other homes in your neighborhood by looking at the newspaper named on your reassessment notice. In addition, our office can provide computer printouts of data for similar homes in your area for you to review as comparison properties. Data from the Cook County Assessor's Office or Cook County Recorder of Deed's on sales of comparable homes is also available.

If you need further assistance, our Taxpayer Services Staff can help you in filing your appeal. You do not need an attorney or a tax representative to file your appeal. Personal assistance and information, including forms and specific guidelines for filing residential appeals, are available from any of our Offices. In the suburbs, assistance is also available from the local Township Assessor.

The following Townships are open for residential appeals, to file as the owner of the property please:
